FAQs
What is your jewellery made from?
All Lucy and Jane jewellery is made from ethically sourced sterling silver. It is always nickel-free and lead-free, making the earrings ideal for children or anyone with sensitive skin.
What are the best earrings for children?
Lucy and Jane earrings are ideal for children! They're made from hypoallergenic sterling silver, so really gentle on young ears. I get lots of lovely feedback from parents, carers and grandparents that these are some of the only earrings they've found that don't irritate their kids ears.
There's lots of different fun and colourful designs to choose from - see the full collection of kids earrings here.
I recommend the earrings for children from the age of 6 as there's lots of small parts.
If the earrings do cause a reaction I offer a full refund.
What earring backs do you use?
All studs come with sterling silver posts and butterfly backs. They’re very easy to put in and remove. I also sell spare earring backs if you ended up losing some.
Is your jewellery safe for children?
Yes. All earrings are made from sterling silver and designed to be gentle on sensitive skin. Reactions are very rare, but if one does occur I offer a full refund. Always wait at least 6 weeks after piercing before changing earrings.
Can children wear the earrings in bed?
I recommend removing earrings with enamel or stones before sleeping, as movement can loosen details over time.
What is sterling silver?
Sterling silver is sometimes called solid silver or 925 silver. It is made from 92.5% pure silver mixed with a base metal like copper to make it strong enough for everyday wear. It’s hypoallergenic and much, much kinder to skin than fashion jewellery that just has a plating of silver.
Is your jewellery hallmarked?
Sometimes. Many pieces are too small for hallmarking. Any sterling silver jewellery under 7.5g does not legally require a hallmark in the UK.
Can sterling silver tarnish?
Yes, but this is completely natural and easy to clean. Tarnish is only surface-level and can be gently polished away. Wearing your jewellery regularly actually helps prevent tarnish.
If it does tarnish a quick polish with a silver polishing cloth or some sterling silver polish that you can buy from supermarkets works really well. If it's only mild tarnish a wash and rub with gentle dish soap also works well. Just remember to dry it well before packing away.
Does your jewellery mind getting wet?
Sterling silver jewellery is fine to wear when your showering or washing. However, chemicals like hairsprays and perfume can speed up tarnishing. It's also important to remove any jewellery when swimming - it particualrly doesn't like chorine or salt water.
How can I prevent tarnishing?
Wear your jewellery often - unlike cheap fashion jewellery sterling silver loves being worn and the oils on our skin help to keep it clean!
When not wearing it, store it in an airtight container and keep it dry. All jewellery comes wrapped in acid-free white tissue paper to help protect it.
If it does tarnish sterling silver polish or a silver polishing cloth (often available from supermarkets) are brilliant to clean them, but you can also try gentle dish soap and good rub with a soft cloth.
Is your jewellery ethical?
Absolutely. Making sure my jewellery is environmentally friendly is incredibly important to me. Most my jewellery is made from recycled sterling silver (this avoids the use of harmful mining techniques and scarce resouces but maintains the high quality you'd expect from sterling silver).
I also check that any suppliers I use follow ethical standards and are members of assoications like the Responsible Jewellery Council.
All my packaging is cardboard and easily recycled. And I even deliver local orders on foot or by bike where possible!
What length are your necklaces?
Necklaces are on a standard 18" chain. This is the most popular length, but if you’d prefer 16" or 20", just drop me an email and I can easily change that for you at no extra cost.
Where do you deliver?
I currently deliver within the UK. Unfortunately, I can’t deliver to Ireland (including Northern Ireland) due to silly Brexit regulations.
How fast is delivery?
I'm very proud of how quickly I get order posted. They are usually sent the next working day. Order before midday and I often post the same day (do drop me an email if it's particularly urgent).
You have a choice of standard delivery - sent via Royal Mail Tracked 48 or upgrade to Tracked 24.
Please note that orders are not posted on weekends as I'm normally busy at markets.
Can I track my parcel?
Yes. You’ll receive a tracking number from the Royal Mail once I've despatched it (check spam just in case).
My order hasn’t arrived - what should I do?
All orders are posted via Royal Mail and they will email you a tracking number so you can keep an eye on it.
If it hasn't arrived when they said it would give it an extra couple of days as it often turns up but if not please get in touch and I'll do what I can to help.
Can I include a gift note?
Absolutely! Add your message at checkout and I’ll handwrite it for you. Just be mindful that if you leave a note but edit your basket or add any further products it can delete the message so just double check it's there before you head to the checkout page.
Your welcome to email me after ordering with a message for me to include.
Can I change my delivery address?
Yes - just email me at emma@lucyandjane.co.uk as soon as possible so I can update the address before it's posted.
Can I collect my order?
Yes! I’m often at Warwickshire markets (check the events page to see where I'll be next) or if you’re local to Coventry just message me to arrange collection.
Are there prices in the parcel?
No. Your order will be beautifully packaged so it's ready to give as a gift and I never include invoices or prices in the parcel - which means you get it sent direct to recipent without them finding out how much you spent.
